The Opening That Earns the Rest:
In 2018, Charu Mehrotra launched the platform largely as a solo founder, without venture backing or a traditional newsroom, clear conviction: that women building serious careers and businesses deserved a publication that treated them seriously. Seven years later, Womenlines.com carries a Domain Authority of 54, ranks third globally among women empowerment magazines on Feedspot, and attracts founders and brands who come not for exposure, but for credibility. The distance between those two points is not a story about luck or timing. It is a story about what happens when someone refuses to separate the product from the purpose.
The Founder Behind the Platform:
Charu Mehrotra is the Founder of Womenlines.com, a Singapore-based digital media platform that has grown into one of the most recognised digital publications in its category. She has built a platform that operates at the intersection of editorial integrity and strategic brand authority, and in doing so, has become a recognised voice in Singapore’s entrepreneurial and women’s media ecosystem.
From Copy Editor to Platform Builder:
Charu Mehrotra’s career did not begin with a grand plan. It began with words. Her early work as a copy editor at Thomson Digital, where she edited and master-edited scientific journals, gave her something that most media entrepreneurs never develop: an almost instinctive sensitivity to the difference between content that informs and content that merely fills space. That distinction would later become the entire editorial philosophy of Womenlines.
Her academic foundation in Mass Communication from the University of Lucknow gave her the theoretical framework. The years that followed gave her something harder to teach. She moved through roles in marketing and public relations, co-founded two ventures, including NC Styles, which brought traditional Lucknow Chikankari embroidery to Singapore, and Udaan, a networking platform for women entrepreneurs in Singapore. Each of those experiences added a layer. The embroidery business taught her how a product with genuine craft behind it still needs a story to reach the right audience. Udaan taught her that women building businesses from home were hungry for community, credibility, and connection, and that very few platforms were genuinely serving that need.
By the time she launched Womenlines in November 2018, Charu had already spent nearly a decade watching how brands were built, how audiences were earned, and how quickly trust could evaporate when a platform chased reach over relevance. She had also spent enough time in Singapore’s entrepreneurial ecosystem to understand that the women she wanted to serve were not looking for inspiration. They were looking for a platform that would take them seriously.
Building Authority While Everyone Else Was Building Audiences:
The years that followed tested that conviction in ways she did not anticipate. The COVID period, which broke most small media operations, became one of the most productive stretches in Womenlines’ history. While other publishers retreated, Charu leaned into global collaboration, building relationships with women founders and experts across geographies at a moment when everyone was isolated and hungry for genuine connection. Those relationships did not just produce content. They produced the kind of distributed credibility that no advertising budget can replicate.
The platform’s SEO growth followed a similar logic. “We invested consistently in SEO over the years, not a one-time project,” she says. “Rankings move, and we stay the course rather than panic with every fluctuation.” That steadiness is rarer than it sounds. Most founders treat SEO as a switch to be flipped, not a discipline to be maintained. Charu treated it as infrastructure, and the results compounded accordingly.
What Womenlines produces is not promotional content dressed up as editorial. The distinction matters enormously to the brands and founders who work with the platform. When Yafot Wellness was entering the Singapore market, they came to Womenlines not for visibility but for understanding. “They weren’t just looking for more visibility,” Charu explains. “They wanted people to understand who they were and why they were different.” The work that followed, founder interviews, editorial features, and authentic brand storytelling, produced exactly that. The feedback from the Yafot founder captured the result plainly: “We are very pleased with Womenlines’ services. It allows us to share our wellness insights and concepts with a different pool of local and global clients.”
That engagement reflects the approach Womenlines aims to bring to every founder it works with. Charu now asks every founder she works with the same foundational question before any content is created: what is the real story behind your brand that people should know? Not the product. Not the pitch. The story. “Many businesses know their products really well, but they haven’t articulated their story,” she says. “Once that authentic story is clear, everything else becomes more meaningful and consistent.”
The platform’s editorial standard operates on a single checkpoint: does this show something real, or is it just telling people what to think? General statements and exaggerated claims may attract temporary attention, but Charu has built Womenlines on the premise that they rarely build lasting credibility. The rule she returns to is direct: promotion tells people you are good; authority gives them enough evidence to reach that conclusion themselves.
Womenlines now shares content across more than eight social media platforms. Charu has earned recognition as one of the Top 10 Women Voices in Singapore for 2026 by New in Asia, served as an invited judge for the HER Courage Awards, and co-authored two bestselling books, including R.O.A.R: A Journey from Ordinary to Extraordinary. She holds an Advanced Certificate in Generative AI for Digital Marketing, a credential she has applied directly to how the platform approaches authority building in an era when AI-generated content is flooding every channel. Her position on that shift is characteristically precise: the biggest mistake founders make with AI is using it to produce more without delivering more, more value, more substance, more proof, more unique perspective.
The Question Womenlines Was Built to Answer:
Charu Mehrotra started with a belief that serious women deserved serious media attention. What she built is a platform that has turned that belief into a sustainable editorial platform, a publication with domain authority, global ranking, and editorial standards to give founders and brands a platform designed to build long-term editorial credibility.
The platform she runs today is not the one she imagined in 2018. It has evolved significantly, expanding its global reach, editorial standards, and services for founders and brands. What has not changed is the standard she set at the beginning, that every piece of content must show something real, and that authority is not claimed. It is earned, one article at a time.
