Dr. Beth Gilbertson
Founder, AdjunctPro | Systems Strategist & Academic ConsultantA Journey of Discipline, Integrity, and Academic Innovation
The trajectory of leadership is rarely a straight line; rather, it is a series of interconnected systems that, when navigated with precision, reveal a greater purpose. For Dr Beth Gilbertson, Ed.D., this journey began not in a boardroom or a high-level academic office, but within the quiet, methodical aisles of the Brown County Public Library. At just fifteen years old, she discovered an early appreciation for the discipline required to maintain systems that serve the public trust. This foundational understanding—that clarity and reliability are the bedrock of any successful institution—would become the guiding pulse of a career spanning the United States Army, the halls of the Pentagon, and the complex regulatory landscape of modern nursing education.
Discipline as a First Language
If the library taught Dr. Gilbertson the value of organized systems, the U.S. Army Reserve provided the crucible in which her leadership philosophy was forged. Joining at eighteen, she entered a world where leadership was never theoretical; it was a visible commitment to accountability and decision-making under pressure. Over a twenty-eight-year military career, rising to the rank of First Sergeant, she embraced the Army’s LDRSHIP values—loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage—as guiding principles throughout her professional and personal life.
While many point to deployments as their most formative moments, Dr. Gilbertson found her most profound leadership education during a year-long mobilization at the Pentagon. Serving within the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-8, she operated at an enterprise level, assisting senior Army officials in organizing systems that impacted global budgetary decisions. Watching leaders navigate high-stakes complexity with composure and clarity left an indelible mark on her.
She realized then that effective leadership is defined not by the weight of authority, but by the consistency of disciplined thinking and the humility to serve the mission above all else.
Navigating Complex Institutional Landscapes
Transitioning her military discipline into the civilian sector, Dr. Gilbertson’s path took a non-traditional turn when she became the Education Director for the Racine Correctional Institution. Leading an education department within a medium-security prison required a masterful balance of regulatory compliance and operational security. It was here that she truly learned to foster stability and trust within highly restricted environments—a skill set that would prove invaluable as she moved into senior academic leadership.
Her ascent continued through a series of pivotal roles, including Academic Dean positions where she was responsible for the fulfillment of educational goals and academic integrity. At Herzing University, her decade-long tenure saw her evolution from an Academic Dean to the Director of Campus Operations, and finally to the Associate Vice President of Experiential Learning.
Solving the Structural Challenges of Nursing Education
Throughout her career, one recurring challenge remained visible: the instability of clinical adjunct staffing in nursing education. Dr. Gilbertson recognized that this was not merely a situational hurdle but a structural inefficiency that compromised the consistency of student experiences. This realization led to the founding of AdjunctPro, a clinical staffing platform designed to flip the traditional model.
By allowing institutions to submit rotations at no cost and empowering qualified faculty to select opportunities that align with their expertise and real-world schedules, AdjunctPro creates a transparent, human-centered approach to a complex problem.
Simultaneously, her professional passion for institutional integrity found expression through Post-Secondary Education Accreditation Consulting (PSEA). Working alongside her fiancé and business partner, Brad, she helps institutions navigate the labyrinth of regulatory requirements with the same clarity she once brought to the Pentagon.
A Vision for the Future: Leading with Purpose and Grace
Today, Dr. Gilbertson continues to influence the future of higher education through her work as a peer evaluator and team lead for the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). Her leadership remains grounded in the belief that sustainable improvement emerges only when the underlying systems are strong.
Beyond the accolades and professional milestones, her true north remains her family. Inspired by her father’s fierce work ethic and her mother’s unwavering resilience, she carries their legacy forward in her role as a mother to her three adult children—Kelli, Matt, and Kate.
They are the ultimate reminder that leadership is a personal commitment to integrity and perseverance. As she looks toward the next chapter of AdjunctPro and PSEA, Dr. Gilbertson relies on a simple yet profound guiding principle:
