The Power of Purpose: Tatyana Jones and the Global Scaling of DEFI Snacks

Who is Tatyana Jones?

Tatyana Jones is a visionary entrepreneur, brand strategist, and the Founder and CEO of DEFI Snacks, a high-growth CPG brand redefining indulgent nutrition. An alumna of the NYU Stern MBA program and a former marketing executive at global powerhouses like Mars, GSK, and Bausch + Lomb, she has spent nearly 15 years managing iconic portfolios including DOVE Chocolate, Combos, and Theraflu. Leveraging her Ukrainian heritage and deep expertise in P&L management, Tatyana successfully transitioned from the corporate boardroom to the startup world, launching a line of high-protein, buckwheat-infused chocolate snacks that have scaled to 1,200 stores and earned national recognition on Good Morning America. Driven by a mission to close the venture capital gap for women, she directs a portion of her company’s profits to support fellow female founders, embodying a leadership philosophy of lifting others while disrupting the $22 billion chocolate category.

In the high-stakes world of global brand management, there is a traditional path: climb the ladder of iconic multi-billion dollar conglomerates and leave a mark on products found in every household. Tatyana Jones did exactly that, managing the P&L and innovation pipelines for giants like Mars Chocolate, GSK, and Johnson & Johnson. But for Tatyana, the “emotional echo” of consumer behavior—the subconscious craving for products that align with identity and wellness—demanded something more than the status quo.

The turning point came with motherhood. Looking at her young daughter, Tatyana saw an industry dominated by toxic “low-cal at all costs” trends and chemical-laden “fake” sugars. She decided to pivot, trading the safety of the corporate boardroom for the grit of entrepreneurship to found DEFI Snacks. Today, she is disrupting the $22 billion U.S. chocolate category by blending her Ukrainian heritage with high-protein innovation, proving that “strength is beautiful” and indulgence can be nourishing.

Tatyana’s journey is rooted in a potent mix of cultural heritage and elite academic training. A native speaker of Russian with roots in Ukraine, she has always viewed food through the lens of nutrient-dense superfoods—specifically buckwheat, a staple of her heritage that remained virtually unknown in the American snack aisle until she championed it.

Her professional framework was built on a foundation of continuous learning. After earning a Bachelor of Science from Rutgers University and a Master of Science in Management from Stevens Institute of Technology, Tatyana pursued her MBA at the NYU Stern School of Business. It was here, in a Brand Strategy class taught by the renowned Scott Galloway, that her “corporate expertise turned into an entrepreneurial superpower”.

Before becoming a founder, Tatyana spent almost 20 years mastering the art of the “Big Brand.” Her career began at Johnson & Johnson, where she spent seven years in roles spanning account management, analytics, and professional marketing. This period of “consistent upward progression” provided the operational backbone necessary to lead at the highest levels of the CPG industry.

She then joined Mars, entering their prestigious Post-MBA General Management Leadership Rotational Program. During her five-year tenure, she oversaw DOVE Chocolate and Combos, managing supervisors and MBA interns while leading marketing activation plans for some of the world’s most recognizable treats.

Following Mars, Tatyana moved to GSK, where she served as the US Brand Lead for Theraflu. In this role, she ran business operations for the brand’s largest global market, leading innovation and commercialization for new product launches. Her ability to restage a brand for growth and create 3–5 year innovation pipelines became her signature. Most recently, as Director of Consumer Marketing at Bausch + Lomb, she led the ground-up brand building for a major dry eye power brand, further cementing her reputation as a powerhouse in consumer marketing.

In 2024, Tatyana stepped away from the corporate world to launch DEFI Snacks, a brand built on the philosophy of “delicious energizing fitness indulgence”. DEFI is not just a snack; it is a movement to “defi” snacking expectations by providing a “perfect collision” of premium chocolate and functional fitness ingredients.

Using high-quality cacao from Peru, Ecuador, and the Dominican Republic, Tatyana’s products deliver 25+ grams of protein and sprouted organic buckwheat for fiber and antioxidants. This “time-lapse nutrition” is designed for a generation that views fitness as a lifestyle, not a restriction.

The impact has been immediate and measurable:

  • Retail Reach: Scaling from a bootstrapped startup to trials in 1,200 stores.
  • Performance: Generating high velocities of 16 units were store per week.
  • Recognition: Appearing on Good Morning America and receiving the “Best Pitch” award at the NYU Stern Female Founder Forum.
  • Social Equity: Directing a percentage of profits to support small, female-owned businesses to combat the fact that less than 2% of VC funding goes to women-led ventures.

Tatyana Jones is currently a member of the Dream Ventures Accelerator, a program dedicated to preparing early-stage female founders for fundraising. Her leadership philosophy is one of “lifting others while lifting ourselves,” ensuring that as DEFI grows, its impact on the community grows in tandem.

Her vision for the future is clear: to redefine indulgent nutrition as something accessible, joyful, and empowering. By blending her immigrant roots with her world-class marketing pedigree, she is creating an ecosystem where success is shared and “guilty pleasures” are transformed into empowering fuel.

Editorial Note: Tatyana Jones’s journey from leading global household names to pioneering a new category of “functional indulgence” serves as a masterclass in purposeful leadership. Her story reminds us that true innovation requires the courage to defy the status quo and the heart to build a legacy that empowers the next generation.
