From Science to Strategy: The Early Years

Picture a young Alero Yemiete from Warri, Delta State, Nigeria, clutching her Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacology and Therapeutics. Alero had always been bright, consistently excelling from her early school days, a trait that earned her nine scholarships starting in secondary school, which helped ease educational costs and recognize her academic promise. Growing up, she was fascinated by health and human biology, drawn to how therapies could transform lives. Her undergraduate studies, though challenging, honed her analytical skills, teaching her to dissect complex systems and understand cause-and-effect relationships, tools that would later prove invaluable in marketing strategies.

From humble beginnings, Alero attributes her journey to God’s faithfulness, the determination of her parents, the goodwill of others, and her own resilient spirit. Inspired by the scholarships that enabled her education, she hopes to launch her own program to give other bright, ambitious kids a platform to chase their dreams. Alero didn’t stop at her bachelor’s. She pursued advanced education with relentless drive, working several jobs, getting her first role in a leading firm, and moving to Lagos against her family’s wishes to chase a dream few could see. She states:

Through hard work, she earned dual master’s degrees in marketing and sales from Rome Business School, Italy, and Valencia International University, Spain, in 2021. These programs sharpened her business acumen, blending her pharmaceutical roots with global business trends and market dynamics. They gave her a holistic view of business as an ecosystem, deepening her appreciation of its intricacies. Reflecting on her graduation ceremony, she said:

Alero credits Mr. Sam Igwe, who acted as a guarantor for her education at Rome Business School, enabling her to secure a suitable payment plan despite never having met her. She says:

“He simply listened to a part of my dream on a phone call, saw my drive, and chose to help. I believe God touched his heart, and he obliged,”

This act marked her transition from a “science student” to a strategic thinker, setting the stage for a journey where insight and strategic thinking would fuel her success. She went on to secure a certificate in brand management and marketing innovation, a diploma in professional marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK), C-suite executive training under the Lagos Business School Executive Team Leadership Program, and certifications in business analytics, soft skills, digital and content marketing. She also gained mentorship training under Women in Management and Business (WIMBIZ) and now mentors others.

First Steps: Entering the World of Sales and Marketing

Alero’s professional debut in a large corporate environment came in 2018 at Fidson Healthcare Plc in Lagos, where she began as a Marketing and Sales executive for core ethical pharmaceutical products. Thrust into the high-pressure environment of pharmaceutical sales, she managed a federal institutional account, growing the portfolio from five SKUs to fifteen SKUs. Between 2018 and 2019, she delivered a 150% increase in purchase rates and improved receivable control by 240%, demonstrating early strengths in relationship management and commercial performance. It was during this period that Alero discovered both the intensity and the limitations of traditional sales models. Reflecting on those early experiences, she later shared:

This realization shaped her next professional steps. By 2020, she transitioned into a Business Development role overseeing a nutraceutical portfolio, achieving 154% territorial growth and 150% key account growth in the same year. She also placed second in her portfolio’s product knowledge assessment, reflecting her ability to combine commercial performance with deep product understanding.

In 2021, in her new marketing role: she led her first product relaunch campaign for the brand “Manoll”, surpassing revenue targets by 121%. These early wins reinforced her belief that structured marketing strategy could transform commercial outcomes.

Climbing the Ladder: Expanding Horizons Across Sectors

Alero’s career soon expanded beyond pharmaceuticals into broader healthcare and technology markets. In 2021, she joined Oil Medical Integrated Services Ltd as Marketing Manager, spearheading the launch of the company’s first e-commerce platform for medical equipment. The platform became the firm’s primary digital lead-generation tool, combining SEO strategy and market analytics to improve product visibility.

By late 2022, she joined Sudabelt Medical as Marketing Manager, soon transitioning into Head of Marketing and Communications in 2023. During her tenure, she delivered measurable growth across multiple performance indicators, including:

  • 16.1% growth in market share
  • ROMI improvement from 215% to 381%
  • Seven industry awards and five additional recognitions
  • 229.7% growth of the company’s business page through a zero-budget digital strategy

Alero curated high-impact professional development initiatives, including the Strain Imaging Competition, which trained more than 280 cardiologists on accessible life-saving diagnostic technologies at no cost. Working with global healthcare partners such as GE Healthcare, Abbott, Terumo BCT, Fisher & Paykel, and Baxter International, she facilitated free clinical training programs, including the nine-step Spectra Optia protocol, maximizing the impact of donated blood units. She championed local capacity-building initiatives, such as Sudabelt’s Biomedical Training Program, developed with the Nigerian Federal Government’s Capacity Development Arm to enhance youth employability. As part of her innovation and sustainability agenda, Alero developed SudaBot 1.0, an internal AI solution to reduce equipment downtime, achieving a 29% reduction in service delays. Her parting gift to the organization was the launch of the Innovating Care Podcast, creating a platform where healthcare stakeholders could discuss emerging technologies, industry trends, and patient outcomes.

Alero’s expertise extends beyond Nigeria. She led digital marketing initiatives at SmartRobot PTY Ltd in South Africa, launching the Tryptex app and securing over 800 pre-launch users through targeted campaigns.

In 2024, she supported ACO Nigeria’s energy sector expansion, coordinating market entry in partnership with global technology leaders Sungrow and Suntec, while managing key stakeholders including Huawei. The initiative achieved a 3% market share gain in its first year. Reflecting on her cross-sector experience, Alero notes:

Her commitment to social impact is reflected in volunteer work with the South-South Pharmacovigilance Centre (in partnership with NAFDAC) and youth development initiatives focused on digital marketing and healthcare integration training.

Leading Today: Innovation and Recognition

As of February 2026, Alero had transitioned into the luxury retail sector, serving as Brand Manager at Montaigne Place, one of Nigeria’s leading luxury beauty retailers. She manages brand strategy for global skincare and fragrance houses including L’Oréal, Clarins, Givenchy, Troiareuke, Carolina Herrera, Rabanne, The Merchant of Venice, and Jean Paul Gaultier. She leads a team of over 100 sales and marketing executives and recently executed a three-week fragrance activation campaign, generating approximately 98% revenue growth. Reflecting on her transition from Head of Marketing to Brand Manager, Alero had this to say:
