Founder & Managing Director at VALTRIQ | Cybersecurity & IT Consultant | Telecommunications & Technology Executive | Telecom Engineer
In July 2025, David Gayoso Mori stepped away from a telecommunications business he had run for a decade, one that grew past €100 million in annual revenue in a market where margins are thin and reputations are shorter. Ten months later, he founded a new technology company in Madrid, with a narrow focus and no finished case studies. The first thing he wanted on the record was what he had not done yet.
A Madrid Operator Who Reads Contracts and Routing Tables
David Gayoso Mori is the Founder and Managing Director of Valtriq, a Madrid technology company working across cybersecurity, telecommunications and IT consulting. He has spent nearly two decades in an industry where the commercial room and the engineering room rarely speak the same language, and he has sat in both. What defines him is not the scale he reached, but how carefully he refuses to overstate it.
From the Cisco Distribution Floor to the Interconnection Desk
He started where the product moves rather than where it is designed. From 2007 to 2009 he worked as an Account Manager at Westcon-Comstor in Madrid, followed by two years at Arrow ECS Spain, working in networking and technology distribution largely inside the Cisco ecosystem. Distribution teaches a specific lesson early: a deal that looks clean on paper still has to survive contact with someone else’s infrastructure.
Then he did something people in commercial roles rarely do. He went technical.
Between late 2012 and mid 2015 he worked as a network and telecommunications consultant, on network operations, routing protocols and infrastructure support. It was hands-on work, and it changed what he could see in a negotiation.
“A technically excellent solution is not necessarily the right business solution. An attractive commercial proposition can fail very quickly if the underlying technology or operational model is not sound.”
That sentence is the hinge of his career. A purely commercial executive misses the second half. A purely technical one misses the first. In July 2015 he took over as Managing Director of Focus Telecom and spent ten years testing whether holding both was worth anything.
It was. The company worked with MNOs, MVNOs and enterprise customers across multiple international markets, and grew past €100 million in annual revenue. Gayoso Mori attributes that less to expansion than to refusal. Focus stayed in international wholesale instead of chasing adjacent business, built relationships directly with carriers and operators, chose partners slowly, and treated operational reliability as the product rather than the paperwork.
“We remained focused on international wholesale rather than trying to be everything to everyone.”
Ten years of that discipline produced the number. It also produced a strong view about what he would never do again.
What Valtriq Will Not Sell
One example that captures his approach is international interconnections, where commercial terms, routing, technical configuration, call quality and financial exposure all fail together or hold together. Choosing the wrong counterparty is not a sales problem. It is a traffic problem, a quality problem, and eventually a cash problem.
Those engagements meant selecting counterparties, agreeing the commercial framework, coordinating the technical interconnection and testing, watching quality and traffic behaviour, and moving routing when conditions moved. Rarely purely technical. Rarely purely commercial. Always both, from initial negotiation and testing through to live traffic.
Valtriq, founded in May 2026, is where he is putting that experience next, across cybersecurity, telecommunications and IT consulting. He is blunt about the stage it is at.
“Valtriq is currently in the market-entry and business-development stage. I would rather be transparent about that stage than inflate the number of completed engagements.”
Read that twice, because almost nobody says it. Offered a business magazine feature and an open invitation to sound established, David Gayoso Mori declined to present a cybersecurity case study before he has one that can be properly evidenced. In a sector that sells certainty for a living, that is not modesty. It is a signal about how he intends to be bought from.
The same restraint shapes what the company will accept.
“We will not take on work simply because it falls broadly under technology.”
Where a requirement sits outside Valtriq’s competence, or where a specialist would do it better, he refers it or brings that partner in. He wants the firm known for understanding both edges of its own capability.
His view on security spending follows the same pragmatic approach. His earlier experience in networking and technology distribution gave him a close view of how organisations evaluate and purchase technology, and he does not think purchasing is the same as protection.
“Buying more products does not automatically reduce risk. Understanding the organisation’s actual exposure and correctly configuring what is already in place can be just as important.”
Asked to name a percentage of security budget that genuinely reduces risk, a number that would have made a very quotable headline, he declined to invent one. It varies too much between organisations, he said, to attach an arbitrary figure.
The Standard He Is Building Toward
So why does a man who has proved he can run a business past €100 million start again with something small, in Madrid, in his forties, building a new track record from the ground up?
Because he decided the second company should be built the way the first one was run, and nothing more.
“I wanted to build deliberately, keeping the organisation efficient and avoiding unnecessary complexity simply for the sake of scale.”
The €100 million sits on his record permanently. It is proof he can build large, which is precisely what makes it credible when he says he is not trying to.
He has already shown he can build something big. What he is doing now is harder and much quieter: building something that will never need to exaggerate.
