Without stating my exact age, I started working in tech before the web was the web – Mosaic was what it was called. I spent about half my career in tech media – Ziff Davis, Gigaom, Red Herring – which was in its prime in the late 90s. I ran the events division. I partnered with another woman to start Dealmaker Media in the early 2000s. We ran a very successful event series called Under the Radar which was the first startup pitch event. In 2009, I started a fundraiser event called Silicon Valley Rocks! It was a great event featuring talent from Randi Zuckerberg, Tim Chang, Raj Kapoor, Drew Houston of Dropbox. In 2014, I was the first CMO at 6sense – employee #11. And then I worked for several different companies in that capacity until I started Trusted CMO in February of 2020. For fun, I love to run, do Pilates and play bass guitar!
I grew up in Dallas, TX and moved to California to go to college. I spent a couple of years living in Los Angeles and Paris before I moved to San Francisco. My father was a contemporary art curator, originally from NYC. As a small child, we traveled to Europe when he got a grant to visit artists, including some dissident artists in the Eastern Bloc! I remember having guards place a mirror under our car to ensure we weren’t smuggling anyone in. I spent a lot of time in museums and got to know some fun artists. I am the only one in my family who is NOT a visual artist.
This is me at the SF MOMA after having waited in line for 2 hours at the annual ArtBash to get a picture for the Inside Out Project https://www.insideoutproject.net/en/
That’s hard. I have my own business and work is often seeping into my personal life. But luckily I enjoy what I do. On the other hand—because my boss is pretty cool;)—I have the flexibility to not work sometimes and make up for it later, when I want. Also, I have grown children that live on the East Coast so my life is inordinately simple now.

I notice whether someone has a sense of humor right off the bat. If we’re laughing in the first 5 minutes of talking, I’m pretty sure that person will be fun to hang out with!
Since I came from a family of art people, being a business person was pretty weird for my family. I felt a strong calling to be an entrepreneur and work in a field where things were happening. I started as an international relations major and then I got into the tech industry and saw its growth during some of the most interesting milestones. I feel very fortunate that the people that helped me were men and women who saw that I had “hustle” and would contribute to building something.
I think that anyone starting out in tech has to be naturally inspired and curious about the technology even if it takes a second to understand what it does. Second, you have to be a great networker, open to possibilities, and helpful where you can be. This is what I like to call the Silicon Valley way – you never know when you’ll meet someone again, and how they’ll help you or vice versa.
Being an entrepreneur is so exciting and rewarding. The highs are high and the lows are low. Perspective is so important. If you are struggling or can’t figure something out, ask for advice, read, and take time to think. Also, I am a big fan of process. It’s so boring, but very important to take the mental heavy lifting off your shoulders.
I am happy to be included and to learn about others' journeys.
I don’t have one favorite, but there are two authors I like: John Le Carré and Haruki Murakami. For two entirely different reasons. Le Carré is the ultimate spy book author – love the intrigue and his writing style. Murakmi’s genre is magical realism which I enjoy when I need an escapist book.
I started Trusted CMO after having taken a few months off my last job. I was being heavily recruited at the time, but something stopped me from pursuing these opportunities. I realized that my favorite thing to do was to work with startups and the VC community. And what I was good at doing was building things. Trusted CMO provides foundational marketing support for early-stage startups who have no marketing team or maybe 1 person. We’re very good at helping companies get marketing rolling until their ready to hire. I am the face of the company but I have a huge roster of small agencies, contractors, and freelancers that I pull in as needed.
