About Nigel Dessau

I’m proud to have been the Chief Marketing Officer for multiple technology companies from start-ups to Fortune 500. I have led business product marketing and product management teams for 25 years, starting at IBM. Raised in the U.K., I came to the USA for a two-year assignment in 1996 and never went back. I became a U.S. citizen ten years later. At the swearing-in ceremony, I was probably the only person that noticed the last piece of music played before the start, was also the theme for Monty Python’s Flying Circus.

Nigel has been an awesome mentor. I worked with him when I was the CTO for a startup. Nigel came in as a celebrity CMO and I expected him to be too "high level". Instead what I found is Nigel is very much a "roll up your sleeves" kind of guy who gave us practical and strategic guidance that helped us reach the next tier. On a more personal note, he helped me with real executive coaching that helped me create the career I have today. Lastly I wanted to underline again in case it doesn't come across: his coachings for me where strategic but also practical and actionable immediately. He's awesome.

I had the pleasure of attending Nigel's presentation "How to be a 21st Century Executive" at the CMO Leadership Forum in San Francisco. Despite being the last session of the day -- Nigel kept our attention with his inspiring, entertaining and thought-provoking presentation. This is a must see for every working person.

Nigel was one of the strongest CMOs I've ever worked with. He seemed to intuitively understand the need to both balance a limited budget and creatively reach the largest appropriate audience for his message. I worked with him while he was at AMD and he was pitted against a firm with a budget that massively eclipsed his and AMD was struggling at the time. Yet he was able to use his limited budget and resources to make an impressive impact regardless of being overmatched by Intel and the operational problems that AMD was experiencing. I'd recommend him without hesitation.
