Prescott Pips
I have a strong drive to always learn something new. My formal education was just a starting point for the real learning. I was very lucky in my first technical career position to be placed with older men who really knew wireless technology. I showed the right attitude and they taught me everything I needed to know. Later, as I progressed into engineering, I was lucky again to be placed in positions where I could invent the solutions. In my last position (Sr. Engineer – Network Planning) with Verizon, my job description was a blank page. I was told it was up to me to define what I was going to do. I thrived in that freedom. Later, I worked as a contractor for the Department of Homeland Security. I was hired because “DHS needs a Technology Roadmap for field communications. You tell us what that looks like”. I thrived again. If there is a message in this, it is: creativity within a technical discipline is the key to success.
