Can you please tell us a little bit about yourself? Some fun facts and anecdotes from your life.

I have been a sales professional for over 35 years, starting out stocking shelves in a grocery store and then moved up in management, operations, merchandising and sales. Currently I work in strategic coaching and consulting with small businesses helping them build a sales roadmap and route to market plan. Also work with business professionals that are not currently fulfilled in what they currently do, or want to transition and grow their career on their terms.  I focus on sales invention, not sales prevention.

Where are you from originally? What are some of your favorite memories as a child?

I was born and raised in Springfield Massachusetts and still reside there. As a child, I remember Sundays were family day. Every Sunday we would pack the car and head over to my grandparents house for dinner and visit with our relatives. There was no work or other activities but family time.

How do you maintain the balance between your professional and personal life?

This is something I have been really working hard at is work - life balance. I also include this in my coaching program as I feel it is important to balance work and personal life.  During the season, I play golf on Saturdays with my son and this helps me get my mind away from things for a good part of the day. I also have learned to shut work down and take time to spend with friends and family. I also plan exercise and meditation, but this is a continued work in progress.

What do you do to relax? Any therapy you would like to share?

Golf, outdoors and hanging with my family and our two yellow labs is important. I am a big believer in massage therapy every 4 to 6 weeks to relax my body and mind. I also listen to music for motivation, relaxation etc.

Which people helped you to get where you are today and what did they do for you?

I have several mentors that have helped me over the years in my career and in my personal life. They taught me how to be professional, be respectful and not afraid to be honest with me and would push me to be my best everyday. I still have breakfast and lunch with a few key people every couple of months.

Often people find inspiration from great thinkers, writers and prolific people in history. What is your favorite quote and why is that quote noteworthy?

I collect quotes from all areas but here are two of my many favorites -

Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success. (Henry Ford)

You are not in control of what challenges you will confront - you are in control of your response to those challenges. The broader your knowledge, the better your ability to react in a winning way to new challenges. (Sun Tzu)

Can you briefly share your professional journey?

My professional journey has been a blessing.  I did not graduate from college and started bagging groceries at 16 years old. I ended up staying at this company for 22 years working from the front lines to the corporate office. After leaving and moving on, I have worked in sales, marketing and business development working with small to medium sized companies. I was able to work with Google after being part of an acquisition. Today I work with companies and individuals to coach, consult and build a path to success on their terms. My journey was a blessing but a lot of tough roads that I had to take and I had to work hard everyday to achieve my path to success.

Did your career turn out just the way you wanted it to?

I have no complaints with my career to this point. I am happy as I did not have any idea or a plan on what I wanted to do when I started out in the grocery store.   I am still working on what I want to accomplish as I want to coach and train companies and individuals to be successful and make a difference in their lives.

Can you share some of the interesting projects you are working on these days?

Currently I have a couple clients I am working with in the healthy alternative food category focusing on plant-based foods and lifestyle. Plant-based foods has grown significantly over the last several years and will continue to be a lifestyle choice and not a fad.  It is very interesting to learn about what is healthy and what we should stay away from. The next couple of years should be exciting.

You have had a varied career to date. Explain some of your proudest achievements?

I have been lucky enough to be part of some great teams and part of creating success.  One special thing was working with a startup in Cambridge MA and after a few years of building the business, Google approached and acquired us. I was able to work with Google in transition for twelve months helping the Google team learn the product and train them on presenting to the retail environment.  This is when I knew that I wanted to become a coach and be able to help companies and individuals.

Leadership Advice

What advice would you give to anyone seeking a career in your industry?

At the end of the day it is all about results. Planning and working hard will help you but results have to come from it. I would also tell anyone that you need to have a work - life balance and decide on what it is you want to be and type of lifestyle for you and your family.  Also, you have to learn consistently and a lot of it comes from you doing the research and learning.  Great employees and athletes can get to a great level based on their ability but if they don’t have discipline and the drive to get better each day they will only be around long enough for a cup of coffee.

Leadership Advice

What advice would you give newbie entrepreneurs about being successful?

1.Plan your vision

2.Plan your roadmap and do the research and learning

3.Utilize social media and technology to learn and to spread your message.

4.Things will not happen overnight- patience is more important than ever.

5.It will be a “curve” - there will be day’s you will want to quit and other days you will feel very fulfilled. You have to be prepared to handle and manage the curve when it goes downward because bad days and failures are part of the process. How you get back up will be the key.

6.Everyday is a new day to go out and win. Learn from yesterday, focus on today and plan and be ready for tomorrow.
