The Early Years
Sinyi Wang’s journey began in the vibrant city of Taichung, Taiwan, where her curiosity and ambition were nurtured from a young age. Growing up, she displayed a keen interest in learning and a strong desire to understand the world around her. This passion led her to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from National Cheng Kung University in Tainan, where she laid the groundwork for her future endeavors.
Eager to expand her horizons, Sinyi took a bold step by participating in an exchange program at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, Canada. This experience not only broadened her academic perspective but also deepened her understanding of diverse cultures and business practices, shaping her global outlook. Following this, she earned her Master’s degree in Human Resource Management from The Ohio State University, solidifying her expertise in a field that would define her career.
The First Job: A Launch into the Professional World
With her educational foundation in place, Sinyi embarked on her professional journey at The Walt Disney Company as an HR professional. Her time there was transformative, marking the beginning of her career in a company known for its commitment to excellence and innovation. Sinyi coordinated Disney’s global recruitment process, contributing to the onboarding of over 2,000 international College Program cast members. It was here that she cultivated her belief in the importance of teamwork and leadership.
During her tenure, Sinyi witnessed firsthand the positive impact of compassionate leadership. The kindness shown to her during challenging times by her supervisors left a lasting imprint on her values, inspiring her “people-oriented” leadership style that would shape her future roles.
“Though the starting salary was not high, I learned to take every seemingly simple job seriously and not be afraid to propose reforms,” she reflects.
Climbing the Ranks at Microsoft
In 2008, Sinyi transitioned to Microsoft, where she would spend the next 16 years advancing through the ranks. Her initial role was as an HR Program Manager (HRPM), which laid the groundwork for her ascent. After about six months, she was promoted to HR Business Partner (HRBP) and Compensation & Benefits Lead, although still as a contractor due to the 2008-2009 financial crisis. It wasn’t until her next promotion, about a year later, that she transitioned into a full-time employee at Microsoft Asia Pacific Operations Center in Singapore, working under the Finance unit. These early years were filled with challenges, but Sinyi’s determination allowed her to overcome numerous setbacks.
From Contractor to Asia Director at Microsoft, Sinyi worked across HR, Finance, Marketing, Consulting, and Engineering, honing her skills and expanding her expertise. Reflecting on her time at Microsoft, she states, “Promotion seems complicated, but all it requires is to go with the basics. It’s the Work Smart that weighs more than the Work Hard.” This philosophy guided her through various roles, culminating in her position as Asia Director of Support Engineering Management. Here, she led teams across multiple countries, spearheading significant projects and fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.

A Shift Towards Education and Community Service
In 2024, Sinyi made a bold decision to transition from the corporate world to focus on community service and education. She became a career mentor for World Vision Taiwan, where she empowers young girls to realize their dreams through mentorship. This role allows her to instill confidence in the next generation and inspire them to break through economic and societal barriers.
“Empowering next generations to pursue their aspirations has become my new mission,” Sinyi shares.
One of Sinyi’s cherished superpowers from her time at Microsoft is the ability to empower others, which extends beyond the workplace. “With my merit increases, bonuses, and awards, I have supported 20 children in need and helped 16 gain independence. This is a personal mission I will continue with my upcoming solo business venture, PM Lab,” she notes.
In addition to mentoring, Sinyi has taken on the role of a lecturer at various universities, sharing her knowledge and experiences with over 1,000 students. “Every class teaches me something new,” she explains, emphasizing the importance of adaptability and continuous learning. Her teaching focuses on project management, leadership, and career development, instilling practical skills that will benefit her students throughout their careers.
As she prepares for PM Lab, Sinyi aims to unite several talented moms from multiple professions who have also worked in multinational corporations like Microsoft, Google, Meta, JP Morgan, and Visa. “I want to showcase multiple career options and give courage to young female professionals or aspiring moms in corporate settings,” she emphasizes.
As a columnist under the pen name Mrs. MAMAA, Sinyi also shares insights on career development and personal growth. She passionately writes about the intersection of professional life and personal fulfillment, aiming to provide guidance to those navigating their own journeys.
“It’s essential to meet expectations, not just exceed them,” she articulates, reflecting her philosophy on project management and life.
